Sony PlayStation Vita playing Confusion by New Order

TRAX

TRAX turns your PSP or PS Vita back into the music player it always wanted to be — a native app on each, not a PSP app running under emulation. MP3, FLAC up to 24-bit/192kHz, ALAC, AAC, WAV, Opus, ATRAC and cue-sheet albums all play from the card you already have, with your cover art, a ten-band equalizer and a sleep timer for the walk home. Tap Select and the screen becomes a cassette deck whose reels wind in real time — or an orb, a starfield, or ribbons of light moving to whatever's playing.

Technical Highlights

01

A myriad of supported audio formats

MP3, FLAC up to 24/192, ALAC, AAC, WAV, Opus and ATRAC3plus are supported out of the box, along with .cue sheet albums. The only limit is the size of your card.

02

Built for the PSP and the PS Vita

One app, two native builds. The Vita version is a real Vita app, not a PSP app under emulation, drawn for its own screen with touch on the progress bar and in the gallery. The PSP is more powerful than people realize.

03

Everything you need, and more

An equalizer, multiple play modes, on-screen popups and information won't get in your way.

04

Visualizations

Thirteen of them. A vintage cassette whose reels wind in real time, analogue VU meters, a dancing orb, level meters, a journey through space, ribbons of light, a party of glowing balls, LED bars, spectrum rays, a waveform, a ring, a waterfall, and the words where the track has them.

05

Custom cassette visualization

TRAX allows users to go back to the '70s and '80s with an audio cassette visualization that they can fully customize. Not only can you recreate your favorite mix tape cassette shell, you can customize how it looks using JSON

06

Optimized for performance

Global shuffle walks the whole card in under two seconds: 1,615 tracks in 1.66s on a Vita, 1,663 in 2.43s on a PSP. It opens nothing while indexing, which is the only reason those are seconds and not minutes. A scripted soak build runs overnight to make sure it stays clean.
